Literature Prize for Translation!

A highly acclaimed prize for literature has been won by a leading academic at the University of Sheffield. The prize was awarded to Dr Kaarina Hollo, for her epic work in translating a prestigious Irish poem.

Dr Hollo works within the department of English Literature, Language and Linguistics and has also previously won awards for poetry translation.

The Irish poem in question, Glaoch ar Liombo, is an ode from a mother to her stillborn baby; it is generally considered the best poem written in the Irish language in the 20th century.
